{"id":144,"date":"2015-08-26T02:22:16","date_gmt":"2015-08-26T02:22:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/petzfamily.com\/?p=144"},"modified":"2015-08-26T02:22:16","modified_gmt":"2015-08-26T02:22:16","slug":"peters-family-memories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/petzfamily.com\/index.php\/2015\/08\/26\/peters-family-memories\/","title":{"rendered":"Peter&#8217;s Family Memories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <i>(Inserted Pam\u2019s memories)<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Mother and Dad:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">Mother and Dad\u2019s house was always open to relatives and friends.\u00a0 Should it be meal time, they were welcome to stay and share what there was to eat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(As a young child, I remember that grandpa called all the grandchildren \u201cguys\u201d ( I always thought there must have been too many of us to remember all our names!!!).\u00a0 He always offered the kids a drink, saying \u201cGive that guy some Schnaupps\u201d which was always stored in the same lower cupboard in the kitchen.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>George and Anne:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">In 1939, George was called into the army in approx. September.\u00a0 I to this day can see him walking up the road with his German Shepherd following him.\u00a0 After he returned George and Anne started farming close to the Pivinuk farm.\u00a0 The second year I spent the summer with them and tried to help make the farm a farm???.\u00a0 George and Ann\u2019s house was also open to friends and family.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(When we lived in Thunder Bay we always spent our 3 week vacation in Saskatchewan and Manitoba visiting family. Auntie Anne knew how much we loved her Creamed Chicken and Creamed potatoes and she always served these favourites to us each year when we visited.\u00a0 She made the BEST creamed chicken and served it lovingly and with a smile.\u00a0 I also seem to remember some pretty good pyrogies and cabbage rolls!!\u00a0 Auntie Anne treasured and had a big heart for her family, both immediate and extended.)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Mary and John:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">In 1950-51, I was working at the experimental farm in Brandon.\u00a0 John was in Ninette and Mary was the cook.\u00a0 There was a Doctor at Ninette whose husband lived and worked in Brandon.\u00a0 I would ride with him on weekends.\u00a0 I spent Christmas and New Years with them and Mary had the staff include me in the functions.\u00a0 In 1952 Mary and John had the restaurant in the Queen\u2019s Hotel in Russell.\u00a0 I was Jack of all trades and had a room in the hotel 7 days a week.\u00a0 In May 1953 John had to return to Ninette.\u00a0 That is when I started working for CP Transport.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(Again, on our summer vacations to Saskatchewan and Manitoba, we always visited Auntie Mary in Yorkton, and no matter what time of day it was, she prepared a wonderful meal for our family.\u00a0 The one thing I remember about her home, is that Harold had a basement full of toys!\u00a0 We always thought he was so lucky to have so many toys!!!)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Elsie and Phil:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">Elsie was a Supervisor for Woolco.\u00a0 When we lived in Thunder Bay, she would stay with us overnight when she visited her stores in Thunder Bay.\u00a0 Each night she would bring chocolate bars for the kids; they looked forward to that.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(Each night when Auntie Elsie came to our place in Thunder Bay, she had treats for the three of us.\u00a0 She always stacked them exactly on top of each other, and placed them on the exact same place on the dresser in her room.\u00a0 After supper she would tell us to go upstairs and look for our treat!!\u00a0 We missed her visits when we left Thunder Bay and not only because we got candy every night!!!\u00a0 When I think of Uncle Phil, the first thing that comes to mind is his cigar, and what I thought as a child was his booming voice!!)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Margaret and Gerry:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">Margaret and Gerry married late in life and raised three great children.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(I remember the glow on Auntie Margaret\u2019s face during pregnancies, in the anticipation of her children).<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Ray Davidson:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">Ray loved music and loved to play for dances, always jolly and happy when doing so.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(Uncle Ray had a common nickname for the nieces and nephews \u2013 can\u2019t remember what it was now, and also for many of his children.\u00a0 Remember his love for music)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b>Brother Dave:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\">What can I say!\u00a0 He was always there to go fishing.\u00a0 He was an expert at filleting fish and frying them better than anyone else could.\u00a0 Many good fish fries!<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>(During our annual summer visits, fishing was always on the agenda.\u00a0 While the boys always loved going fishing, I always enjoyed the fish fries, which were the best.\u00a0 Simple: the key ingredients were flour and lots of butter in the pan!!\u00a0 Haven\u2019t enjoyed such good fish since those days! Uncle Dave also loved to make Borscht and a few other favourites often using ingredients grown in his garden by himself and Auntie Carol.\u00a0 Uncle Dave was a kind gentle soul who was always calm, happy and smiling.\u00a0 He loved to entertain and spend time with extended family.\u00a0 Kerri was \u201cthe apple of his eye\u201d and he lovingly teased Auntie Carol.\u00a0 I also remember how he loved to spend time with the Wagner cousins who also lived in Langenberg at that time \u2013 lucky cousins!!!.\u00a0 He welcomed everyone into their home.\u00a0 Chauntille and Kyler have fond memories as very young children staying with Uncle Dave and Auntie Carol in Langenberg!!)<\/i><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><b><i>(Frank and Darlene:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ecxMsoNormal\" dir=\"ltr\"><i>When I think of Frank,\u00a0 I think of his gentle, kind and soft demeanor, his love for music, and his love for his daughter Carmen.\u00a0 I remember the days when they lived next to Uncle Dave and Auntie Carol in Langenburg and Carmen and Kerri developing a close friendship as cousins.)\u00a0<\/i><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 (Inserted Pam\u2019s memories) Mother and Dad: Mother and Dad\u2019s house was always open to relatives and friends.\u00a0 Should it be meal time, they were welcome to stay and share what there was to eat.
