Story from Steve Petz.
When I was about 10 years old I got separated from the people that took me to the SPORTS DAY in Kamsack. Gordie Howe was playing First Base for a Saskatoon team. Because he was the only person I recognized, I told him what happened. He took me to the P.A. system. They made an announcement and I was reconnected. I became a Detroit Redwings fan.
All my brothers were Toronto Maple Leafs fans. They have no excuse – so sorry.
We delivered milk to several families in Shellmouth. We took turns delivering the milk. On Saturday nights, we would listen to “ Hockey Night in Canada” with Foster Hewitt. One Saturday, it was David’s turn to deliver the milk. He said if I delivered the milk, he would cheer for the Redwings for the rest of his life.
I did. He did.
